The Watzmann-Hochkönig-Runde is a cross-border mountain bike tour that circles two of the Alps' most famous peaks, spanning across Bavaria and the Salzburg region. Riders can choose between a northern loop covering 153 kilometers with 4,025 meters of elevation gain, or a more challenging southern loop stretching 283 kilometers with nearly 8,000 meters of climbing. The entire route is divided into five stages per loop and can be completed in three to ten days depending on fitness level and which sections riders choose. The terrain varies from alpine meadows and forest trails to steep mountain passes, with the highest point reaching 1,792 meters at the Heinrich-Kiener-Haus. The route has been a popular destination for mountain bikers since 2009, offering a mix of technical riding and stunning views of the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps.
